Engine
kit for Swift'Light
The Swift'Light
engine kit is easy to adapt to a standard Swift'Light frame. This
device opens a new dimension for the swift pilot as he becomes
fully autonomous from external contingencies namely for taxiing
and take-off and even from weather conditions. The
powered Swift can take off in 50 metres and climb at 2.5 m/s
The engine
is placed behind the pilot. Therefore, when not in use, it
does not affect the global performance and behaviour
of the SWIFT.
The selected engine is a Bailey 175 4-stroke engine with electronic
ignition, reduction gear and a foldable propeller.
The engine also has a reliable electric starter
: the battery is charging when the engine is running.
The gas tank capacity is 8 litres. For
safety reasons, it is fitted just under the wing. It is
made of composite materials, with a shape designed not to obstruct
the pilot's view. |
 |
| The
front skid of the standard version is replaced with a steerable
front wheel with a disk brake. To
balance the engine weight, the parachute (normally behind
the pilot's head) is moved just under his legs. A big opening
is designed under the fairing (see pictures) to allow the parachute
exit without any obstacles. This opening is closed with
a simple lexan sheet.
In
order to protect the wings from eventual injuries during taxi,
two wheeled tiplets are provided. |

| The
fairing is designed specifically for the powered Swift'Light.
It is completely closed. The performance and the behaviour
is very similar to the non powered Swift'Light. We have paid
particular attention to the engine cooling : it is partially in
open air, and a scoop directs air to the cylinder head. A
small fan cooled the crankcase and the oil. |

During
our test flights, we used pilots of all sizes between 60
and 110 kg, without any problems with power and comfort.
